Till th end of XVII century it was little known about this area within Russian empire as it was captured by Turks and Tatars. It was considered as deserted, waterless and unable to be populated. However, in 1791, when lands between Bug and Dnister were annexed by Russia, it has become known that there were lots of various settlements. Zaharyivka was one of them. It was founded in the second part of XVIII century by Ukrainian and Russian peasants – refugees, as well as Moldavians who came here beyond Dnister.
